FAQ's

How much is your minimum charge?

Our minimum charge is $90. This means if your tattoo takes less than 30 min, we would consider it a minimum charge.

Hands & Feet are $120 minimum due to the fact that those areas are both harder tattoo and heal.  A good rule of thumb to consider is if you want your tattoo to look good, choose a different spot.  If you are still adamant about having your tattoo on your hand or foot we will do it for you, however, there is a good chance you will require one or more touch-ups.  Although most touch-ups are FREE up to 6 months after your tattoo, we DO NOT offer FREE touch-ups for hands or feet.  It will cost you $45 each time. You sure you still want that hand or foot tattoo? Ok, come on in!

What does each artist charge per hour?

Our prices range between artists from $150/hr - $175/hr. This is based on experience.  New artists are less expensive, experienced artists are more expensive.  For more info see the artists bio's or contact the shop to receive a quote.

Do you accept walk-ins?

Yes we take walk ins whenever our schedule allows. However, we do recommend booking appointments to secure your selected date, or if you were seeking a certain artist as they all work different days.

How does the consultation process work?

Consultations are recommended for anyone seeking a custom design. They generally only last 10-15 minutes, and allow you the opportunity to discuss your idea with an artist directly. Custom designs take about 2 weeks to 2 months to receive. The time frame varies depending upon how busy your chosen artist is at that point in time. Once you receive your drawing, you are free to make any changes you feel necessary until the design is exactly how you envisioned it.

Please note that while the actual consultation appointment is free of cost, we do charge drawing fees which range from $20-$100 (payable in cash) at the time of the consultation. The reason we charge a drawing fees is because our artists put a lot of time into designing each piece, and some can even take several days to complete.

Is there a deposit fee?

We do require a $100 non-refundable deposit to secure your tattoo appointment.  Deposits are payable with Visa or Mater Card over the phone.  Cash or Debit in person.

We require 24 hours notice for anyone seeking to reschedule an appointment.  Those who fail to provide sufficient notice forfeit their deposit.

If you are getting a piece which requires more than one sitting, your deposit will be taken off of your very last sitting.

Please treat your receipt as cash, keep it on you and provide it upon payment for your tattoo.  If you pay for your deposit over the phone, a copy of the receipt will be kept at the studio.  Please inform the receptionist that you paid your deposit upon payment of your tattoo to ensure it is taken off the final price.

What is the age limit?

18 years old.  No ifs, ands, or buts.  No person under the age of 18 will be tattooed at Liquid Amber Tattoo.

What if I bring my parents?

No. We have no idea if that skinny, beardy looking fellow is your uncle, your father, or some dude you paid to act like your father.  We would need to have birth certs for both you and your "dad/mom”, matching last names on said birth certs, DNA analysis etc. etc. etc.  This is a pain in the ass for you and us, so we forgo this whole process and insist you wait till you are 18.  It's ok, it's just a couple of weeks away anyway.

Does it hurt?

Everyone has a different threshold for pain and so everyone has a different experience. For the most part, it is never as bad as people build it up to be, or your friends will lead you to believe. People have describe the sensation as similar to a cat's scratch or bad sunburn, and most find it more annoying than anything (especially given that you're required to sit still for a length of time).

What is the most painful area?

This also varies between individuals, but generally the tenderest areas include the ribs, upper under arm (near the armpit), elbows, knees, the backs of elbows and knees and the collar bone.

***Wherever you decide to receive your tattoo, just remember that the pain is fleeting, but the tattoo lasting. So it is important to receive your tattoo in the area you want it most, and not to select the spot based on pain threshold.

What are the aftercare instructions?

We recommend the healing of your tattoo with one of the following:

Black Cat Balm or Serum Kit, Bepanthen, or Blackhorse Crème (all available at Liquid Amber)

If you use lotion: only use Unscented Lubriderm, Curel (in the blue bottle) or Eucerin

When you leave Liquid Amber you will have a bandage on your tattoo.

Follow these instructions step-by-step 2-3 hrs after receiving the tattoo.

#1. Wash hands with hot water and antibacterial soap

#2. Wipe hands with paper towel only (towels have bacteria)

#3. Remove bandage after 2-3 hours if it sticks at all please get bandage wet with warm water to aid in removal.

#4. Under warm to hot water lather antibacterial soap (available at Liquid Amber Tattoo) with hands and then begin to submerge tattoo and lather on soap.  Wash tattoo area until surface no longer feels slimy.

#5. Dab dry with clean paper towel only and let it air dry for an hour

#6. Apply Back Cat Balm, serum, bepanthen, horse crème or if you choose a lotion one of the ones mentioned on the above list.

#7. You want a thin layer applied and if there is any that has not soaked in after 5 minutes remove moisture with clean paper towel.  The crème should not sting if it does remove with a wash as instructed above and allow it to dry.  You may have an allergy to that product stop use and try another on the list.

#8. For the first 4 days of healing remove any moisture that appears on your tattoo by using the washing instructions 2-4 times a day and when unable to wash please use clean hands and dab a piece of clean paper towel to remove visible moisture.  Allow tattoo to dry after washing and apply Black cat, bepanthen, horse crème or lotion.

#9. Do not let hard scabs form.  Hard scabs are a result of a tattoo not receiving enough lotion.

#10.  Remember to always keep moist but not soggy looking this will prolong the initial healing stages.

#11. After the fourth day your tattoo will look flakey and may begin the itching stage.  This is normal and you should continue to moisturize now with lotion 2-3 times a day and just washing slightly with your clean fingertips for last few seconds of your daily shower.

#12. You can slap or pat lightly to relieve some of the itching or simply apply a small amount of lotion to the tattoo.

THE NO NO's: No swimming, No water activities, No itching, No picking, No sun bathing or vigorous activity that can hinder the healing of your new tattoo for a full 2 weeks!

ADDITIONAL HEALING TIPS:

Do not allow the tattoo to soak for any long than needed to wash.

Do not use any other healing balms other than the recommended one on this sheet.  If you do we cannot guarantee the healing process of your new tattoo and you will have to pay for touch ups if needed.

Do not go in sun this will cause a histamine reaction due to a foreign substance in your skin and new tattoos can burn easily.

Don’t let any one including yourself touch your tattoo with dirty hands.

Wear loose clothing to avoid rubbing and irritation or bleeding of tattoo this includes bras.

Small amounts of color may leak onto clothing or sheets for the first few days this is normal so wear appropriate clothing (black cotton is good).

Do not re-bandage!  Air needs to get to your tattoo to heal properly.  If you are working in a dusty environment please wear long sleeves or clothing that covers you new tattoo.

If you are doing any sports it is best to wait until they are over to get tattooed.

We do not recommend going to bars, gyms or hospitals for the initial stages of healing as these places carry many strains of bacteria.

Elevation, nutrition and fluids are essential after a tattoo process so be good to your body.

Be careful not to cross contaminate your lotions and crèmes so clean fingers and don’t touch ends of the pump on containers.

When you are in shower avoid getting soap, hair shampoo or conditioner, hair dye or any other cleaning products on it other than the antibacterial soap recommended.

Do not use any antibiotic ointments, petroleum based products, aloe vera, preparation-h, bees wax, lanolin, citric acid, tea tree oil, canuba or candilla wax, oleic acid, coconut oil, alcohol, lemon grass or old bottles of lotion hanging around your house.  All of these products can hinder in the healing of tattoos for the following reasons:

- Petroleum products do not allow the skin to breath properly clogging pores and setting up an environment for bacteria to thrive in.

- A lot of these ingredients are stringent and can cause irritation to the skin and overly dry out a tattoo.  Some can cause burning and allergic reactions.

- There is no need for antibiotic ointments such as bacitracin, Neosporin, and polysporin as no infection is present in a new tattoo.

- Preparation-H has shark liver oil which forms a physical barrier on the skin and provides no benefits such as decreasing swelling or itching of tattoos.

If an infection does occur stop all aftercare and consult a physician and then report diagnosis to tattoo artist.

Eating kiwi and pineapple can help provide nutrients to eliminate swelling and bruising.
